Admin rights and antivirus
The installer writes into Program Files, so Windows asks for elevation. Two things go wrong here: the prompt gets dismissed, or the antivirus quietly removes the plugin after it lands.
The elevation prompt
Writing to C:\Program Files\… needs administrator rights. If the UAC prompt is dismissed, or the account is a standard user, the installer exits without an obvious error.
- Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator rather than double-clicking.
- If a colleague's PC shows a “your administrator has blocked this app” dialog, the installer is blocked by policy — see the last section.
- After installing, check that the plugin folder actually contains the files (see The add-on doesn't appear).
Antivirus and SmartScreen
An unsigned installer downloaded from the internet carries a mark-of-the-web. Two symptoms follow:
- SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info → Run anyway.
- Antivirus quarantine removes the
.cpgor the bundled DLLs minutes after installation. The menu then appears once and disappears after a restart.
Plugins64 folder to the exclusion list.Verify before reinstalling
Right-click the installer → Properties → tick Unblock. Then install again. This alone fixes a surprising number of “the installer does nothing” reports on machines with strict download policies.
Managed company PCs
On domain-managed machines, application control may block anything not on the allow list. Send your IT department the installer path and the folder it writes to (…\Draw\Plugins64). Whitelisting that folder is usually enough — no network access is needed.
